Change an existing pet registration
Update or cancel your pet's registration, or change your contact details.
Making sure your contact details are kept current is the best way you can ensure the return of your pet if they become lost. Vets, animal shelters and local Councils can scan the microchip and then contact you to let you know the location of your pet.
Moving to Darebin with your pet
If you have registered your pet at another council for the current registration year, you can transfer it to the City of Darebin.
- Complete our application to register your pet
- Provide proof of your pet's microchip details, desexing certificate and proof of payment at your previous council.
- Make payment of a $6 transfer fee (you will be sent information about how to make this payment).

Replacing your pet’s registration tag
When you register your pet with us for the first time you will receive a registration tag to attach to their collar. This tag helps us to quickly find the owners of pets if they are missing.
Replacement tag fees are $6.00, if you need to replace your pets tag, please complete the replacement tag application form.
Your pet must be registered with us in order for a new pet tag to be issued.

Refunds
We do not refund registration fees for pets that move from the Darebin area or are lost, missing, or deceased.
Update your pet’s microchip
Your microchip information is important if your pet is lost or found outside of Darebin. Updating your details with us does not automatically update the contact details for your pet’s microchip.
The RSPCA website has information on who to contact to change your contact details for the microchip.
Changing or updating your pet’s ownership
