It's National Recycling Week!
Published on 11 November 2024
Avoid waste and recycle right from this week and beyond.
To celebrate we have launched the new A-Z waste and recycling guide to answer all your burning recycling questions that keep you up at night, like what to do with that old 90s cassette or the fluorescent globe that’s been collecting dust.
If you want to speak with us in person about all things recycling in Darebin, come along to the Village Greening’s National Recycling Extravaganza we are proud to support this Sunday 17 November.
Keep your eyes peeled over the next couple of months as we share some great recycling tips.
You could be a local champion like Sonal who is passionate about keeping waste out of landfill. “When we all do our bit, we’re leaving the world a better place for our children. Avoiding waste doesn’t have to be hard or take much time – it can be easy!”
Sonal avoids waste by growing her own herbs and vegetables, avoiding single use plastic, and cooking at home. She composts any food scraps or garden waste in her home compost bin.
“Sometimes packaging is unavoidable. When that happens, I place my recycling loosely into my yellow-lidded bin. It’s comforting to know that those items can be put to good use and turned into new things.”
Your yellow lidded recycling bin is for:
- hard plastics like plastic bottles and containers
- paper and cardboard
- glass jars and bottles
- aluminium cans and foil
- steel cans
