2 Wingrove St - site

Council has offered several licences for use of parts of building 1D and the hothouse at 2 Wingrove St, Alphington.

This is a Public Use site with great potential and Council is working on a long-term plan for the site to fulfil its potential as a community asset.

While this long-term planning occurs, Council aims to put the site to the best use possible for community.

Recently, Expressions of Interest were sought for the use of the two areas on the site that are suitable and available for use.

Council received eight applications, including a range of proposals that would benefit the community. Details will be shared about successful applicants as soon as possible.

For now, details remain confidential as there are several steps still to go before licence negotiations are completed and in place. Some applicants will also need to seek a planning permit.

The licences will be for a maximum period of four years which aligns with the timing of Master planning at the 2 Wingrove St site.

Council adopted its final Budget for 2024-25 on 24 June which included $40,000 that was added to accelerate master planning work by a year for 2 Wingrove St, Alphington in recognition of high community interest from several community organisations keen to partner with Council. This will include:

  • completing a preliminary feasibility study about what’s possible, and any constraints on the site, and
  • running a first stage Expressions of Interest process to identify potential partner organisations for the site.

The Masterplan will set out the long-term plan for the site, ensuring there is good investment in the site and fulfilment of its potential as a community asset. The Expression of Interest was advertised for a period of 4 weeks.
