The new Darebin Intercultural Centre, a welcoming and inclusive place for our diverse community to meet, will officially open on 19 March 2023.
All are welcome to join us at the Darebin Intercultural Centre Open Day on 19 March 12.30-3.30pm at 350 High Street, Preston.
Designed in partnership with the Wurundjeri Woi wurrung Traditional Owners and our diverse community, and located on the site of former Council offices, the new Centre is a place where people can cultivate mutual respect for each other’s cultures and identities through programs, activities and events.
“The new Intercultural Centre is vital,” Darebin Ethnic Communities Council Chairperson Nalliah Suriyakumaran said.
“In Darebin we are creating a community that comes together and is engaged, where people feel comfortable and included. The new Centre is welcoming to everyone, and this is the way forward.”
Darebin Mayor Councillor Julie Williams welcomed the opening of the new centre.
“The Darebin Intercultural Centre represents a significant step forward in fostering inclusion and understanding among people from diverse cultural, linguistic, and religious backgrounds. The centre is a shining example of embracing and celebrating diversity to create a more inclusive, compassionate, and harmonious world and help build stronger, more connected communities.” Mayor Williams said.
We invite everyone to come in, explore the space, meet current user groups and learn about how the new Centre will contribute to a more equal society.
What a great way to celebrate Cultural Diversity Week!
Meet the Makers, presented by FUSE Festival, will run concurrently in the City Hall until 4:30pm.
