Maternal and child health

Maternal and Child Health nurses, who are also known as MCH nurses, are registered general nurses with postgraduate qualifications in midwifery and child health.

Our nurses will:

assess your child’s health, development and wellbeing
listen to your parenting experiences and any concerns
provide guidance, emotional support and education on childhood illnesses and behaviour

The service is free and confidential.

Appointments with an MCH nurse

Your baby has regular progress check-ups with our Maternal and Child Health nurses, who are always helpful in answering any questions you have.

First-time parent groups

First-time parent groups are a terrific way to meet new parents like you who will have babies around the same age.

Sleep and settling sessions

We run free sleep and settling sessions for parents and carers of newborn babies to toddlers (1—3 years old).

Breastfeeding support service

Your MCH nurse can help with breastfeeding or other feeding issues.

Help and advice for parents

There are trustworthy places you can phone or go online to find answers. Get help or advice for children from newborns to teenagers.
