The Free from Violence Local Government Program is a State Government initiative to support councils to embed gender equality and family violence prevention practices into their work and the programs and services they deliver. In March 2024, Darebin City Council was one of 12 Victorian Councils to receive $212,500 through the Free From Violence Local Government Grant Program 2024-27. A key focus of the Free from Violence project at Darebin will be to increase the capacity and confidence of Darebin leaders and staff to understand and apply intersectional primary prevention of family and gender-based violence to our work with community. The project will particularly centre the rights of both Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and culturally and linguistically diverse people to promote cultural inclusion and build a Darebin where everyone feels safe, equal and respected.
