Women in sport

Womens soccer team ready to play

Darebin has some great programs to encourage more girls and women to take part in physical activities.

We know that women and girls participation in sport and recreation is lower than that of men and boys. Two-thirds of women in Victoria have low levels of physical activity on a weekly basis.

Darebin Council is actively seeking to 'change the game' and helping more women and girls get active! Your gender should not limit your ability to take part in sport or any other aspect of community life.

Promoting Women and Girls Sport Partnership

Darebin City Council is proud to partner with the Darebin Women's Sports Club on a 'Promoting Women and Girls in Sport' partnership agreement. This involves Council support for the Darebin Falcons VFLW team through until 2022, as well as support for women and girls participation, leadership, and gender equality advocacy in their sporting operations.

This partnership is helping the club break down the barriers, to help grow more diverse participation in soccer, AFL and cricket for women and girls to over 750 players locally. But also providing leadership and off field opportunities in coaching, officiating and administration that is helping grow the female capacity of the club.
